Marvel Trailer Breakdown
As of late Marvel has been quite on point with their trailers. They have been able to reel me in and leave me feeling utterly hyped. Two of their most recent trailers have been for two of their biggest underdog movies, Doctor Strange and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
When the first GotG film was released people didn’t know quite what to expect as it isn’t one of Marvel’s flagship comics. But to everyone’s surprise it turned out to be one of Marvel’s best films yet. Now everyone is eagerly awaiting its sequel. As for Doctor Strange, the same could be said. He isn’t one of the most known characters, especially for general audiences. I believe it has the potential to be one of the best films though. Doctor Strange is easily one of my favorite Marvel characters and in my opinion possibly one of the most powerful. With both films quickly approaching the trailers are a good way to hold us over until their respective releases.
Doctor Strange is the next Marvel film to come out, releasing officially on November 4th. There have been a few trailers to come out and with it being so close to the film’s release it’s unlikely we will get another. So I will be talking about the third and final trailer for the film. It opens up with narration from the Ancient One who is played by Tilda Swinton. Now I’d just like to note that in the comics the Ancient One is a male but I think that this gender bend will work out as the character isn’t defined by his gender. As she narrates it sets up Strange’s back story. It shows how he was a wealthy and talented surgeon who lost everything, or what he thought was everything. It moves into Inception-like special effects of the world turning in on itself. From what I have gathered from the trailers, this is going to be as much a psychological mind bender as it is superhero film. It begins to show Dr. Strange training with the Ancient One and all of the monks and how he learns to harness magic. The best line in the trailer is one that does a good job of summing up the film; “The Avengers protect the world from physical dangers, we safeguard it against more mystical threats”. This quote is honestly what you should expect from the film. The trailer closes with Strange donning his classic blue outfit and cape and doing some magical things. As well as a look at the villain of the film. It also even offers one of Marvels classic humorous cracks. All in all it’s a solid trailer that has me hyped for the film.
Now on to the most recent trailer from Marvel. The first trailer for the new Guardians of the Galaxy movie came out last week and my oh my was it awesome. Hooked on a feeling by Blue Swede plays as the trailer opens and instantly gives you that blood rushing excitement as it shows glimpses of each of the guardians. There’s an epic shot of Gamora pulling out a sword and charging at some unlucky assailant. Then we get a back shot of Star-Lord in full flight suit gear which is totally awesome. It goes on to show that at least at some point in the film (probably the beginning), the whole gang isn’t together. It’s just Star-Lord, Drax, and Gamora. We then get a very touching and quite hysterical bonding moment between Star-Lord and Drax as Drax tries to explain to Star-Lord why he and Gamora won’t work out as a couple. The trailer closes with Rocket Raccoon blasting a whole in the wall and everyone’s favorite baby tree popping up on his shoulder. The trailer is a nonstop nerdgasm. I can’t wait to see this film in May.
With all these great looking trailers coming out it’s hard not to get excited for the future of Marvel films. For more info on these films and for full reviews come back here every week. Until next time, remember to stay nerdy.
