Love of a Woman
So this week I want to talk about love. Not a very manly thing to do I know, but I have a reason I promise. This week I celebrate my 15 year anniversary. My wife is amazing for many reasons but this year something special is happening.
I recently read Tough Shit by Kevin Smith and in his book he talks about sacrifice. How his wife gave up an amazing career in journalism to be a wife and mother. The parallel is I am also quitting my job very soon to be a full time dad and podcaster. This is a huge step and in both cases there is a lot of risk.
People constantly talk about love and what it means. What your partner should or should not do and all the qualifications that would deem them worthy to be around you. But I have to say that thinking is exceptionally selfish. Why should they constantly work for you when you should work together because that is what it is about.
My wife feels like I am on a venture and she wants to support that. Is this perfect for everyone, of course not, but it is for us. You are on a journey in this life and if you are extremely lucky you will find someone to journey with. Everyone has a different journey and no two are alike so why would any two relationships be alike.
At the same time she gets some peace of mind. Someone is home making sure all the busy work of having three kids brings. And she really wants to pursue her career and I cant wait to see her flourish.
This is the best thing for both of us and I cant wait to see all the opportunities that arise. We have a lot goals we want to meet in the future as individuals and we want to help each other to get them. I like to think of it as you are a planet and who do you want as your moon.
Your moon helps you be what you want to be and enhances your life. She doesn’t take it over and put you on the back burner, she helps realize your dreams just like you will for her. I love her so much and am so lucky I found someone to walk with (not behind or in front of). So I’ll end this with Happy Anniversary to my wife and to everyone else sorry for the sap I’ll bring the nerd next week.
Richard is the other half of the bromance team and is the self confessed geek of the duo. Whether it is pontificating on the merits of Star Wars or going on a rant about why Batman is so much better than Superman he loves to flex that muscle. With Shawn he takes to the mic and hopes that he isn’t awkward enough for you to stop listening.
About Language of Bromance
Together Richard and Shawn formed the podcast The Language of Bromance and from there it has been nothing but fun. The duo laugh about things they go through, stories in the news and even getting serious discussing net neutrality along with other issues. Every so often their friendship turns to a bitter rivalry with their nerdiest creation the draft episodes. An original take on a best of or a top 10 list. The draft episodes are done like an NFL Draft 7 rounds where Richard and Shawn flip-flop picks on various topics.
